Few things. First, when you swoop into a conversation quoting something like 'Her choice' even though that's not actually in the post you're replying to, on a brand new account, you look like you were already having this conversation, it ended badly for you, and you just want desperately to have a redo in the hopes things go better.
Second, if you want to talk about revisionist history it helps to not be wildly misrepresenting the story you're talking about. Bridget's parents dressed her as a girl and had her pretend to be a girl. "Pretend" is operative. Bridget never was under the belief that they were a girl during that time. Dressing as a gender doesn't slam dunk you into that gender, otherwise trans people wouldn't exist to start with since we all get pretty hard pushed into what we're assigned at birth. You know this. Are you as concerned that almost everyone you know or will ever know had their gender "Chosen" in that way? Of course not, it's not how things work.
Bridget's motivation for overcoming the superstition was because her parents felt bad. She reaches that point because simply telling them that they shouldn't feel bad, that she was perfectly fine pretending to be a girl, wasn't enough to help, because they were sure she was just telling them that to make them feel better. That tells us a lot, but the things to focus on are that they felt guilty about it, and Bridget didn't care about dressing as a girl or being a boy. The only problem for her was their grief.
It's years later. There is no more influence on her. The village, her parents, everyone she knows, are all identifying her as male. If you're right, they are at that time "Making the choice for them", and choosing "Male." Except, even though she's been living as a boy the entire time, she doesn't like it.
