That and she probably has some of Reimu's BS plot armor.
Well, for one thing, miracles are vital factors throughout the Kinnikuman series. If I am to point out one fighter to represent Kinnikuman, that will be Sanae. Like, she even used the same finisher against Yuuka.
That said, Flandre in the fourth panel is cute. Plus, she got a friend from the match, so it is a win-win situation.
I'm disappointed too but really it's impressive in a battle of votes Flan (Ex boss of a game made forever ago) lost by what, 10-20 votes with 3000+ votes counted, against the 2nd highest voted of all touhous by the most recent popularity poll just off of staring in the most recent game? Really if you think about it it's pretty amazing she got as far as she did.
I still think that sanae/suwako aren't going to be terribly interesting characters though fight wise, they've kinda already pulled out so many stops it'll be hard to come up with more interesting stuff for them to do
just for that reason I really don't want to have to slog through a shrine maiden vs shrine maiden fight, though it will be fun to watch remi beat the tar out of suwako for her brutality against remi's employees
The two things that in the end dissapoited me the most were:
Meiling not getting to move on. She gets the short end of the stick a ton and this is the one place were should should have been more of the king of the mountain.
Flan never really grew. Sure she learned not to go full bore and care about hurting others but she never stood on her own two feet. First it was Meiling then Sanae supporting her. Flan wasn't quite an anti-hero but not far off.

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!! Sanae is a good girl, but Flan can also be a good girl!!! This is upsetting. The only thing I can look forward to left with this is Reimu and Charisma (break) winning the competition and Reimu somehow immediately losing all the prize winnings for complications and BS that will make lols.
This is a bummer. I've really never liked Suwako or Sanae though I like Kanako. I really hope that team Moriya don't manage to win the tournament through the power of miracles. What are the brackets right now anyways? Who's fighting who next. Also kind of sad for Meiling who never really got a chance to shine. Neither did Flandre really. It was all about Suwako pummeling them.
YES. Best end. Faith team ftw. And I still stand by what I said in the beginning. You can't grow if you get pampered. Suwako was teaching her some life lessons, whether she was doing it purposely or not. All that's left is for Reimu/Remi to lose and I will be joyous.
I don't hate Sanae but...ah well, congratulations, I guess.
Now I'm all for a Witch-Kappa VS Maid-KoaSuika (still love you, Orin, Yuugi)...I doubt Marisa will win against Reimu though...plot armor and all...feh.
Judging by Sanae's face in the second panel, I think even she was surprised Flan dropped out.
Oh well, I would have liked to see more Meiling since she's such an underloved character. Not that I have anything against Sanae; she proved herself a definite good girl in the past few strips.
Though now all my favorite characters have dropped out... I guess I'll have to look forward to Kaguya and Mokou teaming up.
well, I suppose like mokou Flan isn't nessecarily out of the story just out of the fight. Also I suppose that considering the entirity of touhou fandom Flandre and meiling have both had countless stories and attention granted to them, so I guess it's not exactly unfair. Heck comparitively many people didn't even know suwako was a curse god.
I was looking forwards to a new take on flan's powers and the inclusion of china's martial arts in the combat though. I really liked her little bit of "techniques are for the weak, I'm weak overall so I learned. now you are restricted to my level, so I can *wreck* you"

Most of Meiling's entries are joke ones at HER expense. It wouldn't hurt to see Meiling do well more than 1% of the time.
Man...I really did wanna see Meiling/Flan go on, mostly for Meiling's sake...and mostly because it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to see Suwako move on.

I third this. Plus, between Meiling and Flan I still feel as if there could have been a LOT more that could have been done with them, tactically, while I feel that Sanae and Suwako have already used up most of their interesting options.
Plus, Flan v. Remi needed to happen, and Meiling v. Sakuya, or hell, Meiling v. anyone else..
Honestly, the shrine maiden heroines get enough spotlight that the thought of them fighting has my utter and burning disinterest. They already hog enough spotlight that this tournament really only needed one of them. If they end up being the final match I'll eat my hat.
I think they've been more or less building up to the latter in the story, what with Sakuya constantly getting based by Remi and the fact she just can't seem to get a break. (Sure, she got suika, but Suika's relation to sakuya is about the same as Yuuka (pre-loss) to Cirno.)
And i'll be happy for this win so long as Suwako eventually gets put in check for her psychopathic assault. She needs to learn theres limits just as much as flan does.2 wrongs don't make a right etc etc.
I'm fairly certain that it will come down to Reimu-Remilia vs. Sakuya-Suika. I'm also leaning towards Sakuya defeating Remilia, causing Reimu to RAGE. Then Remilia pays Reimu to not kick her ass.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if I'm wrong, though.

Remember the outcome was voted this time, so, it wasn't really "everybody was hoping for Flan to win" at least based on the numbers, it seems that the poll ended with quite a close difference between both teams, So it wasn't as one sided as some people think it was...

Count me as one of those. Too be honest, while I'm a big Sanae fan at the end of this match I really didn't care who would win. The story dragged me in to the point where I felt for both players, and who won or lost really didn't matter to me.
So yeah, I'm as happy with this outcome as I would have been with the flipside.
Ferrinic said: The most I can hope for right now is that Remilia comes out and states that she cannot accept the no grudges thing and punches Suwako. Really hard.
I honestly wonder what Remilia's feelings on this are. If Remilia's mellow about this, I'm going to be disappointed.
Loop hole: That only applied to Meiling and Flandre, not Remilia.
Another thing that sits badly is how basically the Moriya team basically fluked their way through another match. What's next? Beating Reimu/Remi or Sakuya/KoaSuika?
StriderTuna said: What's next? Beating Reimu/Remi or Sakuya/KoaSuika?
Hoping for the former. As much as Sakuya frustrates me, a Reimu loss would be golden. However, I'm fairly certain they'll probably face off against the Eientei team next round.
Arrrgh...another crappy win...But...I have a feeling this is definitely the last time they will win. Considering both Sanae and Suwako have gone beserk at one point...
Arrgh!! I'm so mad!!! Unfortunately there are no other teams I like now...*sob* Actually I hope Utsuho and Tenko win the current fight...
lol, I love how you guys are overreacting from the way Suwako acted. She is a freaking curse god, don't let the loli appearence fool you. She is a war hardened god. Last time i checked you don't play patty cake in battle, anything goes especilly when one opponent almost kills your relative. Wish Konoko was in this tournament you guys would really get something to qq about.

Seeing as Sanae is severely hated in this comic (...and perhaps in the actual games themselves) in the west at least, it's bound that some of that hate would rub onto Suwako, albeit irrational to extents.
Mettaur said: Man i was actually looking for a Tie, leading for the creation of Team Ex-Boss Lolis.....such a shame =<
Yeah, I was hoping for that too!
StriderTuna said: Once again, Meiling gets the short end the stick... what the hell, Japan?
Just because she didn't win? Compared to the other doujins, she did Incredibly well! even if she lost!
kuramasu said: So disappointed. It was expected, but I still not like the fact that Sanae won. Nor Sanae nor Suwako deserved to win this match.
Other than the fact that they won thru iron will, endurance, quick thinking, not to mention that Suwako is much of an EX boss as Flan, and not to mention, that the Faith team learned from their experience from fighting Yuuka!(which, in itself is a miracle!) but if that's your twisted definition of 'unfair', then go ahead!

Not really, Meiling did shine, even if it was just a momet, heck, she was the reason that scarlet 200% got that far! Tecnically luck is a skill, Remilia's manipulation of fate is no diffrent form Sanae's miracle power.
...and admitingly, I enjoyed Suwako going bezerk! even for a EX-FINAL boss, she's totally underleveled in most doujins. Violent Suwako > Regular Fanon Suwako.
With as much complaining as people do about this series, I think the author is doing a fantastic job. Even if the team you are rooting for loses, the match still has you tense, and wanting to see more. The fact that the author can elicit such an emotional response with his writing says a lot for the quality of this story. If it wasn't any good, it'd just be boring.
That being said, way to go team Moriya!!! Loved it when Suwako was repeating Flandre's own words back at her: "she'll die? What was it you said - oh right, TOUGH LUCK!"
