Maybe he considers them not real zombies due to how fast the infection spreads. It does seem to vary with individuals, but a bite does turn one into a walking undead in a matter of mere moments.

thats generally they way it is in zombie movies, actually, or at least Romero's films. they usually avoid actually using the word 'zombie' directly. (this is why in Shaun of the Dead they're "not using the Zed word", btw)

its already taking a fair amount of inspiration from 28 Days Later (*coughthesoundtrackcough*), so fast spread rate can easily just go in tow with that. the one kid in the first ep did take a few hours tho.
Y'know... I've been thinking that the Zombie genre is getting kinda lame. We got slow zombies, fast zombies, special zombies, etc...
I think Dead Rising did something good for the genre when Psychopaths, humans who were deeply traumatized by the Zombie Apocalypse, were a more dangerous threat to the protagonists.
