Looks like planting a tap, either a voice one or the one that has cams.

Curiously, I've yet to see home security cams that arent as intrusive-like as a normal CCTV camera and it just seamlessly blends in the house

So what exactly is that thing on the wall? Never seen that before or heard about it in houses. Since it looks like she was unscrewing it, seems as that thing was already there before and she planted the tap in it.

Wall outlet, they are usually installed in boxes, and said boxes usually have some space behind them (just for extra clearance when installing materiel and futureproofing for larger outlets if needed, or with extra functions)

Image. Probably an American box, but point still stands.

It's not normally needed to open one up, especially if you're not familiar with electrical installations.

And most likely this is voice-only tap, as a tap with a camera would need a custom faceplate with a hole, which would be noticeable, and probably difficult to hide. My expertise is limited to regular electrical materiel, spy-tier stuff is out of my repertoire.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Obvious cameras make it clear to any potential invaders that they will be seen, which can keep them from trying in the first place. for people who invest in home security, a camera that can record and maybe prevent break-ins will be more valuable than one that can only record.

Heck, you can even get fake cameras which ONLY look like real security cams, and the most complex they get is moving back and forth and maybe a small flashing LED to indicate that it's recording. Way cheaper than a regular security cam, but is useless for anything than deterrence.
