Expected transmission oil or engine oil TBH

I was expecting hydraulic fluid.

In WW1 some people used torpedo oil for frying. It was made of vegetable and animal fats and could be used in the kitchen. In WW2 people tried this again with desastrous results, because now the oil contained tricresyl phosphate to keep it from solidifying at low temperatures.
