Reminder that Africans were enslaving other Africans long before white people showed up. I'm sure some were just outright abducted, but many were already slaves to begin with and were happily sold to the colonists, not stolen. Africans also treat albinos horrendously, if we're gonna talk about terrible treatment based on skin color.

This by no means absolves any of what happened in America between then and now, of course, but the British/Americans did not invent slavery. I'm not even sure they're the worst offenders of it. They're just the only ones people who want to justify their racism ever cite, because they're just as ignorant as the people they parrot "Educate yourself" at.

I don't think that really changes my point. Africans enslaved other Africans, just like how white people have enslaved other white people, Chinese have enslaved other Chinese, ect. "The rich subjugate the poor" is a universal constant, but not relevant here because the discussion is centered on race, and specifically the enslavement of Africans by Europeans and Americans, as a means of justifying racism against people with white skin.

It's a fact that people with darker skin have enslaved other people with darker skin, the enslavement and discrimination of people of African descent is not exclusive to white races. It is also a fact that albinos in Africa face discrimination and mistreatment by some African communities, which includes dismemberment and murder. They are discriminated against by people with darker skin for having lighter skin.

My overall point is that black people are not incapable of being racist, nor are they innocent in the historical enslavement of black people. White people are not evil. No one chooses the skin they were born with. Frankly, the "clarification" of which class was responsible doesn't serve to do anything but obfuscate the discussion. Slavery is not a whites vs blacks problem, and we need to stop letting people treat it as one to justify their racism.

It's not a false representation of anything. You could say "Rich [blank] enslaved poor [blank]" about literally any culture that has practiced slavery in their history. It's a fundamental truth of the very concept of slavery, because obviously the weaker cannot enslave the stronger. White people were not solely responsible for the enslavement of Africans. Africans contributed to it. They were already enslaving each other before the colonials showed up. But whenever enslavement of Africans gets brought up, it's always to demonize white people as if they were the sole cause of African slavery. It doesn't need to be stated that Africans in power were responsible for enslaving Africans that lacked power. DUH. That's how slavery works.

Well, it was Yoruba salving bantu. Igbo enslaving Zulu. Egyptians inslaving Ethiopians.
