well MY over reaction to it is based on the unnecessary style change as well as the idea that the series needs a remake/reboot at this point, maybe once the last game he appeared in is more than 10 years old, the idea can begin to form a bit

Its not just the little things, its EVERYTHING about him. If they were going to go with a new dante. They could have gradually started making changes. An eye color here, hair color here, new jacket here per game. But since capcom stated its just a different verse, they delegated all that hate towards Ninja.

We can still hate new dante though even though we know hes not the same Dante.

Because NT decided to base the DmC story around Dante's new looks. So until they give us a story, what else are we suppose to go on? Sure, wait and see? You know why that doesn't work? Because it was a trailer for a series that NEEDED NO REBOOT and trailers are SUPPOSE to SELL you on the game. DMC wasn't a game from the genesis era, it was a game that literally came out about 9 years ago and with a recent entry, new characters, with NEW loose ends that NEEDED a tie up. The other M isn't a good comparison because that the very fucking least, Samus LOOKED like Samus..the DMC base doesn't even have that.

You know WHY they did that? Because Capcom fucked up, this isn't about being afraid of change or 'crying', this is about a series that NEEDED little improvements here and there like better gameplay, story, plotholes closing, more character depth; NOT A REBOOT. The fans have EVERY right to voice their anger, you can't just assume that DmC will sell buckets and gain new fans, as stated NT has ZERO cred, Enslaved is their latest game and if it isn't good, what do you think their chances will be with DmC? It'll sell because people will be interested in the game but the negative feedback from not only USA but damn near international at this point will make it hard.

Again, it's not our fault that the reaction is negative, Capcom/NT gave us a kneejerk trailer and the fanbase gave them a kneejerk reaction. It's simple really.

I'm reminded of the reaction people had when Nero first showed up in the DMC 4 trailer, and he turned out to NOT be the total disaster that everyone said he was going to be. Now granted I've done the whole "Change #5,104 pisses me off! The series is RUINED FOREVER!" temper tantrum routine before, but not this time; I'm sitting on the fence until I at least see some gameplay footage.

New game, meh. I'll still buy it just because it's DMC. Accepting this new fella is Dante, it's probably never going to happen. For one, I grew a strong attachment for the original and two, the punk doesn't look stylish or crazy enough.

A) I never raged at Nero as I welcome new PoVs; not as if they were trying to replace Dante with Nero. Even then Nero AND DMC 2 Dante are cooler than this poser.

B) Capcom backpeddled fast on the relation of dmc to the DMC series; official word is "This game is not classic DMC canon" If anything NT's blowing their head off with such a move.

C) I'm not sure about NG3 but I had now problems with what the Other M was trying to do, it just so happens the execution was flawed.

D) The last thing you want to do when doing a game from a series is go about spitting on the past games. NT shat on them with a sicking amount of arrogance, same with "Dante"'s Marty-stu-ness not being intentional.

E) The reason why people are raging is Character/story related. NO ONE likes it when they take a well liked character and... 'reinvent' him for some stupid reason.

A) Probably, if they can wow me, I don't have the deep pockets to plunk down 60 bucks on a fan purchase anymore, but if NT can pull of a total win with DmC, they'll get my money, simple as that.

I don't even have that much of an opinion of Devil May Cry as a series, but that...*thing*...is not Dante. That's a rejected character design for Final Fantasy, in an outfit from the 80's.

If they'd said he was just about ANYBODY ELSE, there wouldn't be anywhere *near* this kind of backlash against him.

My money is still, ever so hopefully, but likely vainly, on it being a fakeout...like a reverse Metal Gear Solid 2, and the REAL Dante will do a Dynamic Entry JUST LIKE THIS, and say something like 'Yo, I'm Dante. Kept you waiting, huh?'

If they were trying to make a side story without the arrogance seen, folks might have been alright with it, but with all that's happened and this trailer, NT basically reduced their credibility among most action gamers to zero with this. NT will be quite reviled in the future because of this.
