6/28 is Apple Day! The day when Jazz™ apples from New Zealand were first imported into Japan!
With the word apple or "ringo" (林檎), the character of go (檎) supposedly originates from its component tori (禽) which is another character for birds (鳥), and since birds gather in large numbers on fruit trees in forests (rin/林), we thus call them ringo.
I hope you learned something new today.
The word apple can be used as a euphemism for "tempting a woman."
