I always fashioned the translation 'Fantastopia' for Gensokyo since it's a portmanteau of gensou(illusion or fantasy) and isoukyou(utopia). That would make it fantastology. ...Of course, with the usage of Gensokyo in common practice, I wouldn't be pushing this translation so much.

Gensoukyou can be interpreted literally as "Wonderland", yes. (The '郷'/kyou part can mean "land". Utopia is risoukyou/'理想郷')
"Phantasmocology" might also work, 'though that's a mouthful.
If one insists on the word "Gensou/Genso", then it's kinda awkward since the -logy suffix is usually paired with Latin or Greek words. (from -logia and -logos)
Gensology sort of works already (since "Genso" ends with an 'o'), 'though Gensocology might fit better.
The "soft G" still sounds awkward though.
Kinesiology sounds rather similar, 'though it means something else entirely.
