Because the badass pool is so inflated that pretty much every picture can end up there, thus making it pretty damn pointless. Also see Awesome Mecha (apparently every single mecha is "awesome" by default) and Nostalgia.

Generally true, but that's exactly the problem with the pool: since most mecha are indeed awesome, there is absolutely no point at all in having a pool for awesome mecha. It's like having a pool for attractive females, or for blondes with light hair.
