What the hell, who could possibly ever bring themselves to shoot such adorable children? The never did anything to anyone. Look at them, they can barely survive out here in this harsh, unforgiving wasteland. I could never shoot someone like that.

Ever noticed how the V.A.T.S. likes to aim at harmless targets or your allies first, if any are close by? I have a feeling that's what's happening here.
    Or, I do hope so.

Do this in Fallout 2. Enjoy the perk that make the whole world instantly hates you.

You're not a real Fallout fan if you haven't massacred the whole Den child population in at least ten subsequent runs, with or without the timebomb trick, as a sweet payback for the thousands of gravely important items that ended up in their pockets. Also if you haven't finished the games multiple times as the worst son of a bitch in the Wasteland, taking "grave robber", "slaver" and "child killer" for compliments.

Add the list with going genocide to all city population in Fallout 2 after splitting Frank off. Sweet revenge for chasing my ass when my char was around. Except the Raider. They are cool. But I still blew all of their head off later.

What do you mean by Fallout 3?
    Van Buren, perhaps?

Also, why would you do something like that in FNV, they put the iron sights on rifles for a reason.

I prefer remaining a good person even in games. I've never killed any NPC without a valid reason (not including for loots and unique items, in which case I honestly felt guilty) either.

So do I. But sometimes you like a game so much you play it again and again, and you naturally have to exploit every possibility and discover every end of a dialogue tree.

Have you ever played Fallout 3? Or New Vegas? They got VATS too!

Regarding Van Buren, Van Buren was supposed to be Fallout 3 but Black Isle Studios decided to name it Van Buren instead for some reason. When Bethesda took over the project, they named it Fallout 3. Keep in mind that Fallout Van Buren and Fallout 3 are different in any way.

No, franchise purists bitching about something by pretending it doesn't exist stopped being funny after the Tsukihime fans overdid it, that's all.

I'm by no means a franchise purist, I even translated a major part of the F3 for the local community and FNV actually turned out pretty well (thank you, based Obsidian). Nevertheless, Todd Howard definitely ought to look up the term "continuity" somewhere instead of going for the cheap Bioware-ish BUTTON -> AWESOME style and thinking up more things that could be made to explode irrationally.

Do note: unless using a mod that changes this, children cannot be killed in Fallout 3, though I'm not sure about NV. So while the children may get hurt, they will just get back up again to slowly beat the player to death with that pipe.

Though, if you want to kill the children in the game, you're probably only playing it as a 'eats puppies and kittens' evil character anyways.

You cannot kill children in New Vegas either. There are much fewer than in Fallout 3 to begin with.
