Tried only using the main colors off of the original RBY sprites, and while I sort of like the pastel look, I'm not sure just how good it looks. This is an interesting color challenge, I'm not used to doing monochrome schemes.

Will probably try one more time with Venusaur not to use the black to add a bit more contrast, and if I still don't like it I'll experiment. Still want to not pull from any other colors, just work with the main sprite colors without introducing anything else.
