Alright, ramblings of a madman comment because I couldn't just keep quiet about how ingenious "Sangetsusei" is as a title:

    Sangetsusei → 三月精

三精 (sansei) is a word (although I reckon a pretty obscure one) used to designate the three lights: the sun, the moon, and the stars (Eiki does talk about this when discussing the 60-year cycle with Reimu).

Now, I'm fairly confident that this word was the origin of the concept for the three fairies of light: partly because their names, designs and personalities are based on the aforementioned three lights, and partly because the 精 kanji is one often used to talk about spirits and it's part of 妖精 (yousei), which means "fairy".

Finally, "sangetsusei" is in and of itself another reference to the three lights. "San", as close to the English pronunciation of "sun", "getsu" is the reading and the literal kanji for "moon, and "sei" is also the reading for 星, the kanji for "star".

The 28th of January is Anecdote Day!

The second installment of Touhou Sangetsusei is partly available to the public at a website known as Touhou Garakuta Soushi! There's probably a typo there, it says "Touhou Sanyousei" (lit. Oriental Three Fairies), when the actual title is "Touhou Sangetsusei" (which is honestly pretty hard to translate because there are like three different levels of wordplay in there).

A day to talk about little-known stories, based on the pun with the word "anecdote"!

    The pun: Anecdote → itsuwa → i(1) tsu(~two; 2) wa(reading of は—ha— as a particle; ha → 8)
I wonder if there really is a difference...
On the second chapter of the second installment of Touhou Sangetsusei, the three fairies of light, together with Reimu and Marisa, captured some ghosts as a way to combat the heat.
They captured them with something like this
However, it's been established that half-ghosts are somewhat larger and warmer than those regular ghosts!
Ofuda with Reimu's words of gratitude on it
