I think this the right name of the armor. Armor styles change as newer MH games are released and I have no experience with the 1st gen MH game so it was difficult finding a consistent image to use as a reference.

Yeah, it is called the Borealis armor. It was a lot of fun to be one of the two on the four person team tasked with attacking the head of Lao Shan Lung.
Good ol' Monster Hunter on the PS2 and Freedom on the PSP; your character maneuvered like a tank but dealt damage like one too. Heck, back in those games longswords could block fireballs (since they were treated as greatswords before Freedom 2).
