“Another world that looks like a Makai…”
On her way to… wherever she was, Renko had spent time at a mountain lake, in a mansion by a different lake, and many other places. According to a sign she read back in the mansion, she should be in an Otherworld known as “Fantasy World.”
“Fantasy World, huh? Sounds like some kind of bizarre quantum world.”
As she continued to explore, she occasionally came across a Hieda gramophone. It was quite the antique.

“It’s like I’m in outer space.”
The only difference was that in this place, she could still breathe. That, and she could swim as if she were in water (which is slightly different to flying). But the stars shone clearly in the darkness. It was like she was in a dream swimming through outer space. Perhaps before humans learned what outer space was really like, this is what they imagined it to be like.
For the time being, Renko got Hieda, the gramophone floating along like space debris, to record what she saw. It wasn’t space debris, of course, but that might help picture the scene.

“Are you a devil?”
Space and devils are a rather unexpected combination, huh? But it’s more common than you might think. Space and angels, too, for that matter. Spiritual beings like devils and angels were thought to live high up in the sky among the stars. It was also believed that by interfering with the flight of the stars, they disrupted the ether pervading space, sending it toward Earth, where it influenced people’s minds. They were also truly convinced that this is what caused diseases to appear.
“Record all of that for me, would you, Hieda? Thanks.”

“Angels?”
All devils were once angels. Put simply, devils are fallen angels who betrayed their master. However, such an oversimplification can lead to misunderstandings. For humans to advance, more than salvation is required―they also need to be tested.
Just then, Hieda spoke in a voice that sounded very similar to Merry’s. Although, perhaps that was just Renko’s imagination.

“This is just like a video game.”
Retro video games are now an important part of history. With that in mind, Renko often digs up some of the very first video games, recreates the environment they were typically played in and gives them a try. Playing old games doesn’t have much to do with physics research, but she believes it will benefit the Secret Sealing Club in some way. Not that it has… until now.
Right before she came to this place, she was in a mansion called Mugenkan. If you think of that as a fortress and where she was now as space, it’s as if she was in a level of a retro shooting game. At least, that’s what it felt like.
