Hopefully this incident doesn't stain the BA community too much. It was a massive WTF moment.
The BA community rep has always been stained since forever. This one just adding a new fresh one to the pile of shit.
From what I've seen, the community itself is split about the incident, one side denounce the racist Momoi meme because of well... racism. The other side doubles down on the meme claiming it as a way to gatekeep the game from tourists, be it BA players and non-players alike. IMO it's quite ironic since forcing a personality that a character canonically doesn't have or exhibit in game is tourist behavior. Then again, the latter group are mostly found on Twitter which we know is a hive of scum and villainy.

I understand the logic behind gatekeeping, but I don't understand why people are so vehement to gatekeep Blue Archive.
Despite being rated 17+ on the App Store, BA is lighter on the fanservice than most gacha. Yeah, it has a lot of lolis in it, but there are lolis in a lot of pieces of media made in the Far East, and Blue Archive just happens to have more than most. And even then, I'd say only about 1/3~1/2 of the cast are lolis.

Yeah, it has a lot of lolis in it, some being more scantily clad than others, but there are lewdable lolis in a lot of pieces of media made in the Far East, including some made by Nintendo, and Blue Archive just happens to have more than most. The same reason you would want to gatekeep anything. Just look at what's been happening to things like 40k and DnD. It's not specifically about the lolis, either. BA has a lot of teacher/student relation undertones (and overtones), characters like Hanako, and other fanservicey elements. BA fans don't want that stuff to be messed with, and if you don't gatekeep at least a little you risk the voices that complain about that stuff getting loud enough to have an effect on the game. You can't argue that wouldn't happen, either, considering that loud complaining resulted in the devs releasing a separate 17+ version of the app to address issues of censorship. The devs listen to the players, and the players don't want them listening to "players" that would just try to change the game.
There's already been multiple instances of community staff and even translators trying to scrub some of the lewd stuff in an attempt to pretend either that stuff isn't there or that the writing has become less "problematic" than it was initially, neither of which are true. So, the playerbase has gotten a bit... protective.
I also want to clarify this, before a gatekeeping argument starts, gatekeeping does not mean "Stopping anyone from joining the community" it means "keeping or driving out people that are just there to try to cause strife." It's not any different from Danbooru users downvoting people that comment just to tell everyone how much they don't like rape art instead of just blacklisting it.

There's a version of the game that's not 17+? That's news to me. Even then, there are complaints of censorship in the 17+ version, to the point where it's been bombarded with 1-star reviews on Google Play and is currently sitting at a 3.6 rating. I don't see a bunch of puritans causing changes to a frickin' 17+ game.

This incident has done more to harm Blue Archive's reputation than any amount of infiltration ever could. A lot of tourists commented on this incident, thinking it was business as usual for the BA fandom. Forget censored; I'm genuinely worried this will get this game banned.

The current censorship complaints and the older complaints are different matters. Originally the global app was rated 12+ or something, and some cutscenes were censored by the devs due to "third-party requests." This was despite the devs claiming there would be no censorship. After players complained enough, they eventually raised the apps age rating to 17+, removed the censorship, and released a separate 12+ app with the censorship intact. Maybe they've taken down the 12+ app by now, I'm not sure.
The current complaints are largely for the translation quality in general. Suggestive lines never avoid getting hit when there's a new update, but innocuous lines get mistranslated, too, so it's hard to tell how much of it is incompetence and how much, if any, is actual malice. Obviously some players think it's all malice. Mobile game devs always outsource their translations so it's arguably not their fault, but BA's devs usually get the mistakes fixed when the players call it out.

Unfortunately can't really disagree with that, though getting banned is unlikely, at least in the US. If it wasn't going to get banned for things like fully nude Aris and "school shootings" then it's not going to just because someone in China was being racist. Wouldn't surprise me if someone in Europe tried to ban it, though.

Ironically, the story of Blue Archive is about being a responsible and respected adult for the sake of your students.
Haven't finished reading chapter 2 & 3 yet, but the main story so far is very touching and well written. but for a game with heavy subtext on adults romancing underage children (not even subtext at times, e.g. kirino's lines saying you're allowed to date your students), its kinda inevitable that the game attracts creepy age-of-consent law enthusiasts who're also Austrian painter fans. even if it wasn't the dev's intention (doubtful, given nexon's history of kowtowing to korean incels), they should've saw this coming.
the last time I checked blue archive EN twitter, before uninstalling twitter entirely, was when they were celebrating BA anime's sensei being a male twink so they can harass and expel female players over it, as if calling everyone who isn't an unapologetic irl pedophile "tourist" and banishing all female players and thereby female artists, who are the hands that feeds the game's popularity, is gonna help the devs or the community.
BA EN community's 'gatekeeping' so far has been solely based on completely imaginary threats where even the slightest perceived reduction in a line's fanserviceness in favor of better grammar, flow or context is immediately blown out of proportion as some sort of grand woke conspiracy against the game. adding this racist nonsense is just going to make the BA community a glowing example that for every gacha game the en community is always the most toxic, even moreso than korean incels or chinese nationalists.

Is it just physically impossible for your type to join a discussion without calling everyone you have grievance with pedo Nazis in your opening statement? Should you even be criticizing other people when you've got loli posts in both your favorites and uploads?
Chinese Momoi cosplayer got lost in the meme sauce and said some extremely racist things to IShowSpeed while livestreaming his trip to China. Possibly not actually a racist, just really stupid. She's gotten a lot of heat for it, has apologized, but Yostar has released a statement about considering pursuing legal action over it. Idiots online also attacked a completely unrelated Momoi cosplayer because they mistook her for the one that did the big racism.
For what it's worth, IShowSpeed doesn't seem to have taken it too personally, but it's a messed up situation all the same.
understandable for acting this way, from car rams to knife crimes all over Europe, ww2 statute desecration in Korea, and lame dancing streams on shrine grounds in japan just to name a few

This isn't the forum to peddle your actual unhinged racism.
As if it wasn't scripted to get ishowspeed more fame.
Like the cotton thing with him. I have to give it to him, he found very easy way to get more publicity in current shitstorm of time, although not first time he has done this.
