But in Colonel Aki's 4komas, that's fun. And it don't always mean that the author of the drawing hates her. Meiling is one of the most liked characters in Touhou series.

But isn't that BECAUSE of her fanon depiction? Cirno is the most well-known Touhou character because of her (9) meme.

Also, I'm surprised. I thought the 3DS was definitely gonna be sold out. I guess Colonel thought she suffered enough because of her DS systems.

It is very good natured Meiling abuse, and since it revolves around the SDM crew more or less, Meiling is the go to character for abuse (like Reisen).

Also Meiling is Sakuya's foil.

Think of Shino and the Remilia abuse. It's all is good fun.

I guess, but to me, it's going into borderline torture. Even when the poor girl isn't doing anything bad something happens to her. I guess I'm mostly upset about the fact that the fanbase either ignores the canon facts about her or exaggerates something (like the naps she only takes in the afternoon).

I mean at least her sleeping could be excused. Her job seems kinda boring anyway. Who wouldn't fall asleep?

Since you mention it, Reisen abuse bothers me more than Meiling abuse, since Meiling usually screws up right before she gets knifed or pounded, but Reisen's usually minding her own business or even doing a good job when she gets trapped or experimented on. I'd be nice to see either one of them get some respect though.

Considering that Reisen is a butt-monkey in canon, its stands to reason she would be one in fanon.

Anyone who's threatened with painful stabby times if they do so. You'd think Meiling, who is canonically competent, would learn, but nope, fanon enjoys the whole Three Stooges routine more.

Some of them ignore the canon just because they never play the games or read official books. There's a lot of "non-fans" who make fan-arts without knowing a lot about the characters.
I agree with the fact that it would be nice if Meiling's treatment in fanon became better. And knifed jokes really starts to get old and very childish sometimes...

See, that's what I'm saying. Meiling is a competent gatekeeper according to PMiSS. But it's sad that all of that gets pushed aside to make her a laughingstock. I mean other characters get the short end of the stick as well, like Cirno and Alice, but at least some of thsat is at least taken from a resource. For Meiling, it's like the fanbase was just looking for a punching bag and found someone like her for it.

Although consider the alternative. Is "bad" fans better than having no fans? Putting aside the PC-98 cast, Yamame and the Aki sisters diffenetly come to mind for having a VERY short fanbase. I wont put Akyuu or the other book only characters here since that wouldnt be a fair compairison like the pc-98. Although the upside to not being popular is that what few fans those characters do have treat them very nicely. So take that as you will.

I'm just not that big a fan of butt-monkeys in general, but it's worse when abuse is heaped on them by their employers or supposed friends for no reason other than the aggressors' amusement. (At least Tewi gets comeuppance once in a while, though. I don't think I've ever seen Meiling get the better of Sakuya or the Scarlets in a non-romantic context.)

The Meiling Model frequently slacks off and sleeps which First Generation Sakuya Models find irritating. The Meiling Model proved to be popular with buyers due to her enthusiasm and incompetence on the other hand and she still brings a steady profit to the Shanghai Alice Corporation.

There are some models noted to surpass the First Generation Sakuya Model, particularly the models developed by Asatsuki-dou Heavy Industries. However it may have been coincidental.

Don't forget she is Chinese and unfortunately gets stuck with "reliable China". The fact she is still liked so well says something for her character.

There is a cute comic about that where she more or less stays awake for 24 hours and the second she falls asleep she gets knifed.

That recent series of comics about her and Sakuya being put into bunny outfits. Big sister Meiling at that.

Gensokyo Tag Tournament (Where her and Patchouli beat Sakuya and Alice; something that wouldn't happen in most fanons as the latter two are seen as quite able and in addition to Meiling's joke status, Patchouli is considered "super-frail girl that never leaves library)

The Iron of Yin and Yang comic, where she was able to hold her ground for a decent bit, requiring a particular tactic to really win.

Colonel Aki's Meiling is basically fanon Meiling amplified by 200+%. This would bug me if the whole series wasn't silly overall, having Chibi Yuyuko and all. And he's fond of making other characters butts of jokes, even Sakuya.
