Unless we get some official info about Homura’s family/ parents (I still didn’t understand if she’s an actual orphan or not), I support the headcanon that “her parents are alive and they’re a narcissists who never really loved her, only tended to pretend it and later abandoned her because of her issues”. It’s literally the most logical explanation for her situation, behavior, the way she feels about herself and even her obsessive dependence on Madoka alone (someone she knew only for a single month -since it’s aparent she never knew the real love before and Madoka really was the first person in her life who’s shown her kindness). These aspects would perfectly explain why is her situation so extreme and it’d complement the tragedy of her character.
