Oh, how I wish more of Carnelian's art would get high ratings! Higher than atleast 30. It's sad, she's such a great artist and many don't appreciate her.
For most part, Carnelian's art is really, really boring. It's all the same poses, same faces, same eyes, same painfully obvious Illustrator & Photoshop. It only gets more interesting when she does some actual sketches and doodles, these tend to have more life in them.
comment #38627 It's "pretty" in the cheapest way possible, with a lot of gloss and pink and "look ma I'm moe now" look. It could be appealing, the first time you see it perhaps. Not when you see it for the 1000th time and it doesn't change in the slightest.
I know Carnelian can draw well. Some of her sketches are really great, and her doodles are often funny, if slightly silly, and that she did the original chara-design for YamiBou, which is my beloved series of all time. But that doesn't change the fact the vast majority of what she does is excruciatingly generic. And her H works tend to be *extremely* turn-offish as well.
Seriously, though, it's the complete opposite of all the cutesy "appeal" she does so much in her non-H work. It doesn't have any taste, and besides, tends to be ugly / really ugly. If I'm playing a game, and get attached to a character, it is not because I wish to see that character violated next by huge, badly drawn penises.
I can't say that I know for certain whether or not the h-elements in her games are her or the game developer's intent or not, but I will agree with you that she's done her fair share of fetish pictures.
Have you typed in "Quilt" in the search box recently? The scenes she drew for her characters Airi and Ena are fairly vanilla, so she's quite capable of that, as well.
When you say "generic," do you mean that her characters are body clones with different heads pasted on? I can't say that's a problem unique to her; in fact, I think it's part of the price you pay for drawing professionally (you have to meet deadlines and sometimes you have to sacrifice making your characters completely unique physically). Look at Naoko Takeuchi, the mangaka behind the Sailor Moon sensation; that's a shining example of body clones. Or Akira Toriyama, the guy behind Dragon Ball. Or even the artists behind so many superhero comics.
Is it safe to say that you've played her games, perhaps even the original Kao no nai Tsuki? If so, maybe you could show where a complete CG pack of the game can be found?
comment #40930 Nope. All of her H-games (did she ever make any non-H?), as far as I'm aware, have plenty of precisely the elements that make me allergic to the vast majority of H works, which I outlined in my previous comment, too. I thought of playing Yamibou, which is supposed to give much more of the backstory, and thus would be a perfect complement to the series, however, after looking at the game fanbook (which is actually just all the scenes and story printed out), I'm convinced I'll never do it. I can accept H elements if they're not obnoxious, well integrated into the story and just belong to the flow of the game. Yamibou's H has none of that, it's the exact opposite. I'd give a lot to be able to play a non-H version, but there isn't one. As it stands now, it's completely unacceptable, I'm simply not willing to spoil the image of Yamibou I have with some crappy and completely unnecessary H shit.
I'd like to point out I've removed the suzuna_kuraki tag. It's not Suzuna! Suzuna has gold eyes. It's the female character from the Kao No Nai Tsuki II game. And also, I can't wait until April. Kao No Nai Tsuki II is supposed to come out 2007/04/06. Or so Getchu says. It may not be exact though I hope it is. Though I do wish it would come out sooner! I can't wait to get my hands on the CGs. comment #41981 I hear there's going to be a Quilt release for PS2, or some other system, do you think you might play that when it gets out? It might be right up your alley.
Carnelian's art will never bore me, though I can understand where ่ๆ is coming from. However the first eroge was familar with was Yamibou so her ero stuff doesn't bother me though I've had qualms with how boobs are drawn sometimes... But as a fellow artist I can understand that artists go through many hardships. So Carnelian in the end is a big inspiration for me, and I admire her a lot. Her art is the essence of beauty, to me. And her sketches do have a tendency to be the most interesting! Anyways this is by far my favorite picture of Momoka.
