She has long blonde hair, grey eyes, and large breasts. She wears a white dress shirt with a black necktie under a black bomber jacket, a black belt, a black pencil skirt, black pantyhose, and rudder footwear. Her damaged CG reveals that her dress shirt does not have sleeves.

Her rigging consists of bridge tower mounted on the right side of her body, while she carries on her left shoulder an extremely long flight deck-shaped weapon case. Like Saratoga and Intrepid, she carries a firearm to launch her planes, in her case a modified M1903 Springfield with a pair of Quad 1.1 inch anti-aircraft guns in place of the rear sight.

Due to the history of the real Hornet, through the Battle of Midway and the Battle of Santa Cruz, she has a relationship with Akigumo, Makigumo, and Shoukaku. The incident at Santa Cruz is referenced in her sinking line as well as her 4:00 p.m. hourly where she is willing herself to model for the game's resident "manga artist."
