8chan was an anonymous imageboard website founded by Fredrick Brennan in 2013 (eventually acquired by Jim Watkins in 2016) which allowed users to create their own boards for specific topics. The site was the subject of various controversies over the years up until its closure in 2019 following a series of mass shooting in the United States linked to some of the boards on it. 8chan would return on November 5, 2019 as "8kun".
