Susan Storm, also known as Invisible Woman, is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, Sue first appeared in The Fantastic Four #1 (Nov. 1961) and was the first female superhero published by Marvel during the Silver Age of Comic Books. Sue and her invisibility powers were inspired by works such as Universal's The Invisible Man.
A founding member of the Fantastic Four, she received her powers after being exposed to high levels of radiation in space. After their mother, Mary, died in a car crash and their father, Dr. Franklin Storm, being sent to prison for accidently killing a person, Sue and her younger brother Johnny went to live with their aunt, who ran a boarding house. There, Sue would meet and fall in love with Reed Richards, who was working on an experimental rocket ship called Marvel-1. After the government cut its funding, Reed decided to take it to space, along with Sue, Johnny and pilot Ben Grimm. In space, they were hit by a cosmic storm, exposing each of them to cosmic radiation and it sent them crashing back down to Earth. The experience gave each of them superhuman abilities and they decided to become the Fantastic Four. Sue would later marry Reed and together, they would have two kids, Franklin and Valeria.
After being hit by the cosmic radiation, Sue and her friends were mutated, allowing her to turn herself, objects or others invisible, manipulate light and generate psionic force fields. The Fantastic Four's greatest villain, Doctor Doom stated that she is the most powerful of the group. Sue has long blonde hair, blue eyes and usually wears a two-tone blue and black bodysuit with the Fantastic Four logo on it.
Sue is portrayed by Jessica Alba in the 2005 film Fantastic Four and it's 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Kate Mara in the 2015 film Fantastic Four and Vanessa Kirby in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film The Fantastic Four: First Steps. She has also appeared in various other Marvel-releated media like TV shows and video games, including Marvel Future Fight and Marvel Rivals.
