In real life, Brooklyn and her sisters were explicitly designed by the US Navy to counter Mogami and her sisters, even possessing the same layout of five triple mounts (at least prior to the Mogamis' CA rearming). She was commissioned in 1937 and won four battle stars, less than her other sisters as she never saw service in the Pacific.
Post-war, she was transferred to Chile in 1951 as the O'Higgins, serving until 1992 when she sank under tow to the breakers.
