    roy focker

    ロイ・フォッカー

One of the main characters of the Choujikuu Yousai Macross TV series, the Macross: Do You Remember Love? movie adaptation, the Macross Flashback 2012 OVA and the Macross Zero OVA.

A talented and strong-willed veteran mecha/fighter ace pilot, he is known for his love of women and alcohol. Roy Focker is Ichijou Hikaru's best friend/sempai and Claudia LaSalle's boyfriend. He is also an American.

Roy tragically dies in episode 18 of the original series ("Pineapple Salad") when he bleeds to death after being wounded in battle and refusing to seek medical attention so he could visit his fiance Claudia as she was making a fruit salad for him at the time. As one of the first permanent deaths of a major protagonist animated hero character (shown in the 80s ROBOTECH adaptation in the west), many westerners were very very surprised to see this dark and tragic outcome as it had never EVER happened in cartoons until then.

His name was spelled Roy Fokker in Robotech for two reasons; to correct the reference, and to avoid confusion with a certain word the producers would rather non be said on air.

Roy's mecha of choice are the VF-0S, the VF-1S and the VF-1 Strike.

In real life the design of this anime character was inspired by Sleggar Law from Mobile Suit Gundam (1979), who had a similar fate.
