I could dig this... Why have I not seen a doujin that seriously explored this route? Given the potential hilariousness that could unfold with such shenanigans it must have been done by now.

Timing mostly, not only was the internet in its infancy back in Ranma's age, but also Tsunderes werent as popular for a female lead. The 90s was mostly the "Girl next door" archtype (which usually overlapped with childhood friend however both are indeed different archtypes)
Fan artists (especially high quality ones) are pressured to only draw what is relevant or new so that further alienates old series. The only way for old Animes or games to come back to relevancy is an HD remake or Reboot.
but also Tsunderes werent as popular for a female lead.
Umm... how would you describe Akane's personality, exactly, then?
Hell, the former TV Tropes name for "When a Jerk Loves a Tsundere" was "Takahashi Couple" because Rumiko Takahashi did so much to spread the trope even before Evangelion really made the tsundere explode in popularity.

I didn't say they didn't exist. Which is why I tried to add to what i was saying instead of leaving it at that. That was still indeed the era of "Girl next door" before Tsunderes were more mainstream. This can be seen in compairison to other harems during that decade as well as Eroges and Dating sims. Early 2000s was the true start of that, 2000-2010 was the Tsundere decade.
Being a Trend setter doesn't immediatly start it untill others start copying/following your example.
Tomorrow... I'll beat Ranma!!!What if Ryouga had fallen into the Spring of Drowned Girl?Where the hell am I~!??Gonta*GRIP*
