It'd be hard to get the silhouette to line up exactly, but there could always be an x-ray emitter on Link's side, a sensor behind her, and the handheld device simply displaying the data from the sensor. It's not like he's holding up old fashioned film or the like.
In fact even if there was an x-ray sensor built into the device, it'd still be hard to get the silhouette to match up, since its view would be different than Link's POV we're seeing.
