So, a Hololive meme image that has been around for quite some time now and has been reposted all over the place which in turns completely ruins search results and will get even worse over time. We've attemped a search for this image before on the Discord, but I wanted to give it another whirl.
By digging though them with the old Google Image Search (because Lens sucks balls) to trace existing images to their sources and the two oldest results are:
The Tweet has been posted about 3 hours after the 4chan post. And given that the Tweet also mentions "no idea who made this" I'm willing to bet that this Tweet got the image from 4chan.
Now the filename of the orignal image that the anonymous user uploaded is 1577789138983.jpg 4chan uses Unix Timestamps to create image names which can be converted to a readable timestamp which in this case is Tue Dec 31 2019 10:45:38 GMT+0000
Warosu.org has a great [View Same] image search option, but it has no earlier occurrences of this image. Following the filenames of posted images and working back yields no results The highlighted post is 1577789109318.gif and the image below it is 1577789174570.jpg Following the timestamps of posts (you can hover on them to show Unix time) also yields no results This excludes the /jp/ board.
Using ArchiveofSins to search /r/ also yields no results
Desuarchive is a bit easier to use because it allows you to search for specific image dimensions (1500x1000) This also gives no results and excludes a large number of boards including /a/.
Archive.Palanq also has no results which excludes /wsr/
The last board is /b/ and its recurring draw threads and using Archived.moe yield no results but this is because of technical reasons. The search engine only returns at most 5000 results which means about 200 pages. Results can only be filtered in chunks of a day, so you cannot specify a range of time. Archived.moe has 30192 results for 2020-12-31, and 200 pages gives you a reach of about 3 hours. Not helping is that the day after is the 1st of January which also gives a lot of "Happy New Year" junk posts.
So that concludes this journey. The possibilities are:
It's deep in the inaccessible Archived.moe /b/ archive.
It was created on a completely different imageboard that also uses a similar 4chan platform.
