Pretty cool, in a really twisted sort of way. "Moso" - the timber bamboo seen in movies like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and what appears to be depicted here - can grow 100cm in a single day. Positioned over an emerging shoot like that, I fear this could get ugly.

It was still being done in the Vietnam war actually. The Vietcong would put captured American soldiers above the bamboo shoots and leave them there.
