Danbooru

I just don't get what I should do...

Hey there, I'm not new to danbooru, always adored this web-site, and it was my main source for the best art pictures. And, well, of course the best hentai :) Now danbooru is back on the road again, but it has some restrictions. Everyone is saying that you should contribute images, translate mangas and just prove yourself not being worthless to this project and being an active user. But I just don't get it - how exactly shall I do it? All the content that I have was already published here, on danbooru, before. I don't know japanese (as of yet, lol), so no help for translations either. How can I be active then? Comment pics? I don't think that's enough. I really want to do something useful for this project, because it treated many of us very well before. But I just don't know how else...

Thanks for the attention, and excuse me for my grammar - I'm not a native speaker.

There are several ways to contribute, even if you don't speak Japanese or have a vast selection of images on your computer. For example:

- visit the websites of artists you like. Perhaps they've updated their site with a new image that has not yet found its way to danbooru. Add that image. You can find the websites of most artists by visiting their profiles (by clicking on the question mark next to their tag).

- seek out new artists that have not yet been featured in danbooru. An easy way of doing this is visiting sites such as these:

http://drag11.s6.xrea.com/check/

http://www.tinami.com/

Both are Japanese, but navigating them shouldn't be an issue. I also tend to browse through the Link (リンク) sections of artists I like, mostly because it isn't as overwhelming as the aforementioned sites and you get slightly more, err, focused content.

- add images from artbooks. A lot of the more prolific and well-known artists have released personal artbooks or have submitted images to anthologies. More often than not these images tend to be some of the best they've made, and yet they end up receiving less exposure since they are not directly featured on the artists website.

- check the wiki pages of tags (like the artists tag, these are accessible via the question mark link next to the tag) to see if they're informative enough or contain any information at all. Update if necessary.

- be helpful whenever you can.

- don't spam / post crap / be a dick. Try to follow the rules and guidelines posted elsewhere on this forum.

- and most importantly: have patience. Don't nag anyone about obtaining invites and don't make any ";);) If I only had an invite ;);)"-type posts, as it won't work in your favor.

This should get you started in the right direction.

Thanks! Well, I'm not planning to be a hard-headed freak anytime soon, so I guess there will be no problems with getting up.

Don't want to loose an opportunity to say my biggest thanks to danbooru's administrators for giving a second birth to this wonderful project!

Instead of posting comments saying "Hot" it's much better to add that post to your favorites. It's unobtrusive and actually contributes to the site (by allowing for better data mining).

Yeah, got carried away with the comments, sorry. Well, anyway, if all these things you mentioned are the right way to take, then I'm really grateful for the advice, and I'll do my best. Even if I end up with not contributing much - I'll try to not mess things up.

I'm not a mod, but I can say that the tags could always use cleaning. For example, I'm looking for wallpapers on danbooru, and notice very few have the dimensions tag, which is important for some wallpaper users.

Can non-privileged users upload hentai?

Technically, you can. But you shouldn't.

I guess not really? Since you can't really see if the database has a given image or not...

I think if the image already exist, it gives still gives a warning whether it's tagged safe or not.

I wouldn't go that far, but I suggest choosing wisely before posting anything. Images taken from eroges ("hentai games") should only be posted if they're very special.

More or less. Red text will appear telling you that the image exists. The image itself will not be visible to you.
