How may original poster delete posts?

Posted under General

I'm somewhat curious as to the underlying reason for wanting post #426942 removed. Uploader's request for the reason doesn't say much.

I don't mean to second guess your judgment, it's just that I'd prefer a much more clear reason for flagging the image for removal. Lack of a well spelled out reason for deletion has always bothered me with the flagging of images.

Neither one is a duplicate and we do not delete duplicates. Uploaders are not allowed to delete their own images and I'm of the opinion that unless its *really* bad, a rule violation, or pixiv medium they shouldn't be able to make someone else unapprove them either.

Neither of these posts would have ever been flagged barring a letter from the artists and just because the uploader regrets uploading them or whatever cockamamie story he came up with there was no reason to flag them. This is exactly why we disabled self-deletion.

Sometimes I question why Danbooru took away the ability for posters to delete one's own post. How much abuse did it create before it was taken away?

I don't see why posters should be able to delete their own posts. It's not like they own them or anything.

Question: What does ownership has to do with anything?

Well maybe the poster made a mistake and uploaded something he/she didn't want to upload, or the file they uploaded is corrupted in some way. It could also be used to delete dupes from this server.

Normal users can't delete any pictures, regardless of who uploaded them. So, not the ones they uploaded themselves, either.

You're providing a service in uploading them to danbooru, but that doesn't give you the right to delete that image. After all, we only allow one copy of each image, so this gives you the power to effectively remove ("ban", sorta) images from the site.

In such cases I don't think any of the mods would have a problem with deleting or even double-deleting your post so it won't affect your deleted post count.

There's really no reason to make users able to delete their own posts. If there's a valid reason for one's post to be deleted, then the mods will do it, it's their job.

Don't get pedantic. I'm talking about the right to delete something. It's not their decision to delete something. When you upload something, it becomes a part of Danbooru and you no longer have a say in what happens to it.
