ear_piercing

I wonder about the
purpose of the ear_piercing tag and its
relation to piercing and earrings.

piercing:
This tag refers to body piercing, earrings should be marked separately.

I guess this "body" piercing is somehow meant to exclude ears.

I thought that ear_piercing were for piercings on the ear other than rings, but most of them are rings. It also implicates piercing whereas earrings does not. (I guess there can be an identifiable earring which is not currently on the ear).

Is ear_piercing for all piercings on the ear which don't pierce through the earlobes? How would that work for elves and animal-eared characters, since I know we have nearly 3000 images tagged earrings animal_ears.

That's how I would use it. Distinguishing between traditional and non-traditional ear piercings is a useful thing to do.

I'd say animal ears shouldn't count for the purposes of this tag.

If we're going to make it so that animal (and perhaps some other types) ears are an exception, could an exception to that be in the case in which there are multiple ear piercings?
