Danbooru

An idea for a new feature.

Posted under General

I see there are so many tagme posts and under-tagged posts all around the site. And it's really a shame, since it hinders proper searches and razes the possibility of duplicate posts.
So what i suggest it that for every 10 tags (or more) a person adds to a post (that hasn't been added to the post before), they're allowed to upload 1 more image to the site in the next 24 hours. That way people can earn the ability to add a lot of images, if they've got a lot to add and at the same time clean up the posts.
A similar reward system could also be implemented for translation request, source request, artist request, character request and mecha to identify.

Your desire to improve the tagme situation is admirable, but increasing a user's upload limit as a reward is not a good idea. It's there for a reason: to prevent people from uploading tons of posts before they've proven that they understand our quality standards.

I think some kind badge system would work a lot better. Add a certain amount of tags and you get a shiny "Good Tagger - XXX tags added" on your profile page. Add even more and you get a "Holy Shit That's a Lot of Tags!!" badge, and so on. It wouldn't even have to confer any kind of special abilities. As has been discussed, if a number is prominently displayed on one's profile page, people will always strive to increase it.

Of course, you'd have to track the number of tags added, not just tag updates as is currently tracked. And it would have to take into account if your tags are removed by other users, so as to prevent people from just vandalizing a post with a bunch of nonsense tags to increase their count. And maybe tagging older posts could be worth more somehow, to encourage people to look at the backlog.

Tag edits really need to be made visible again. I wonder when Danbooru 2 will be coming along.

If anything like this were implemented, I'd do the same concept, opposite direction. Instead of good tagging increasing slots (you can game that by just uploading crap tags, and even if you tag well that doesn't mean you recognize good uploads), bad tagging would decrease slots. But then you run into the whole "upload with no tags first, add tag later", although I wouldn't mind penalizing those people, really.

Great idea. Like an achievement system. But whom does one have to go to in order to suggests such a system?

I personally wouldn't have a problem with an acheivement system, everywhere else does it, and it does sort of cater to "the game" or people's egos or epeens or whatever as discussed here a few weeks ago. I doubt it will fly though as it's very close to avatars and other cruft that many leading members deplore.
