New tag: hats with brims

Posted under General

Can't believe I didn't bring this up before. Why isn't there a tag for a hat with a brim going all the way around? I can't find anything suitable under *hat* or *brim*.

A couple of times when I've been on tag marathons I've tried and failed to find a name for these hats (I'd call them summer or straw hats, but then that's too specific for what I'm thinking of). Off the top of my head, nagae_iku and usami_renko give plenty of examples.

I've seen much bigger brims than bowler, top and porkpie hats that I've wanted to tag. Those huge floppy summer hats (not sombreros) come to mind, but I can't think of any examples.

Also I'd rather tag features of clothing rather than try and fit everything into the limited number of names for clothing items most people can fit in their heads.

You mean sun_hats? Also, most styles and types of clothing/fashion are usually named quite specifically for a reason. If we only tagged based on descriptions, we'd run into very wordy or objective tags that make it hard to find anything.

That said, I do see some merit in a brimmed_hat tag as a catch-all for ambiguous cases, though that would crowd tagcounts a little (a picture containing a bowler hat would have a bowler_hat, brimmed_hat, and hat tag simply for that one object. It would work similarly to helmet and the tags implicate it.

There's plenty of other tags with setup like this, cum_on_* being a particularly bad case. But does it matter? Who reads the whole tag list of an upload when not checking for a particular tag?

Edit: Oh, and the implications.
