So you want medusa to be for the specific character Medusa, and use gorgon for snake-haired girls in general? But how would you visually tell the difference?
It doesn't look like the tags are currently used in distinct ways. And the medusa wiki doesn't give much more information besides "snake-haired woman".
As it is the implication doesn't seem like it would accomplish much since gorgon only has a few posts that medusa doesn't, so the tags would end up having almost the same posts after the implication.
The suggestion makes sense, although I don't like implicating a specific character to a race. You could have cases of humanization where gorgon no longer applies.

Check if the character belongs the a copyright.
Check if the name of the character is specified in the source.
The thing is that the medusa tag is not currently a character tag used specifically for the character Medusa from Greek mythology. It's a general tag used for characters based off of her. For example, post #139217 - the character is named Medusa, but is actually an original character for monster_girl_encyclopedia.
