So is there a reason these "This is my Original the Character do not steal" recolors earn their own set of tags and copyright?
Especially for a game where literally anybody can paintbucket a sprite and then claim its a new completely original character?
Even worse, some of these ACTUALLY HAVE THE TAG ORIGINAL ON THEM.

How do these not warrant the recolor or alternate_color tags, and dumping their special snowflake original sonic character status?

Wait, lol. We actually do have a recolor tag. So what's the difference between recolor and palette swap? The wiki says something about two versions depicted in one image, but the actual posts are quite random. Or maybe we should just use alternate_color for all of them..

Hei Meiling actually has its own pixiv tag, which is actually decently populated (over 200 images) and is still being added to. It seems at least popular enough as a variant on the original to warrant having its own tag to refer to that specific alternative coloring of her, so criticisms of it having its own tag is kind of unwarranted. Of course it should still be tagged Hong Meiling, unless there is a good reason that it's not getting tagged as such.

As for the others:

  • post #1145506, there is only a small number posts of this variant on pixiv, but she does have her own pixiv tag (for what it is worth) and all them follow that specific coloring. The tag would cover this specific unique coloration of her, though the pixiv tag hasn't been added to for years, and with only 2 images under our tag it does bring to question the value of having it.
  • post #1811626, there isn't really anything wrong here with its current tagging. You're criticising the m.u.g.e.n tag, but there really isn't anything wrong given that the source itself states that this image is also part of that community.
  • post #1665595, I'm not seeing any other images of this variant, so it having its own unique character tag doesn't seem warranted. The m.u.g.e.n tag and alternative color tags (which are already on the image) are enough for the image.

Just a quick glance, I believe recolor would be appropriately defined as "changing the color of a pre-existing work" and thus things like post #194060. Palette swap, as the wiki describes is properly used when tagging images like post #1596093 and post #1756552.

Pixiv is full of nonsense tags. Just because it's a tag on pixiv doesn't mean it needs to be a tag on danbooru.

That kind of logic is also dangerously close to the "that post was approved/deleted so this one should be, too" that doesn't fly around here. This topic matter is better left to pools than tags.

No, because it's a tag that is covering a very specific version of the character with a very specific color scheme. If you can't get that logic then you don't understand what the point of tags are.

The logic you guys are trying to pull to justify the removal of some of these tags is the same as arguing that tags like achi_cirno should be deleted because it could be covered with an alternate_color cirno tag search.
