You're correct, aliasing might be a bad idea after all. Probably just a remove with very aggressive nuking whenever they resurface then. It's always the same users creating them anyway.

Also, what about hypothetical cases of an animal tail being visible, but the gender (or species) of the owner can't be confirmed?

Let's be realistic, how many of these cases are there actually? I guess we could be forced to create a hyena_other tag or something, but how often do you see the tail or ears with the character being completely androgynous and unknown? I can rather see those posts being tagged with 1girl + androgynous than 1other.

The bigger issue is that you'd have to do an OR search to be able to find all results for certain ears, with, say, ~hyena_boy ~hyena_girl, but already barely anybody's searching for hyena ears. I added the statistics for *_boy tags, and there were only 35 queries above 50 searches per week. The vast majority is just one or two searches.

If we don't want to merge these tags into cat girl, and we don't want to merge them into cat ears, then I'm inclined to just nuke them.

The serval ears tag gets on the order of 10 unique searches per week. This is extraordinarily low for a tag with 5.7k posts. Most tags of this size get on the order of 500-2000 unique searches per week.

This is so low it made me curious: are there any other tags with more posts that get fewer searches? It turns out the answer is no. Serval ears is single least searched tag on the site, after adjusting for tag size. It's literally the most useless tag on the site.

The other lynx/caracal/whatever tags here are no better, their only virtue is that they're small enough to be ignorable.

Cat girl itself is a not a good tag. Cat girl has 18k posts. Cat ears has 142k posts. If you're searching for cat girls on Danbooru, cat girl is absolutely the wrong tag to use. You're missing out on the vast majority of results. It's nothing but a trap for newcomers who don't realize that if you want to find cat girls on Danbooru, you need to search cat ears. So the whole argument over whether serval girl should be merged into cat girl is moot to me. It doesn't matter what we do with the cat girl tag, if you're smart you shouldn't be using that tag to begin with.

This same problem exists for all animal girl tags, almost no one uses them. Only the ear and tail tags are consistently used, despite the fact anyone featuring animal ears or tails should logically qualify for the matching animal girl tag.

The problem is that since both ears and tail must be present for it to qualify for the*_girl tag, the girl tag will always have less posts than the *_ears tag

Where is that actually specified? Cause cat girl says: "A girl with cat-like features, such as cat ears or a cat tail." Implying only one is needed.

Even assuming such a rule exists, cat_ears cat_tail comprises over 70k results, 4 times as many cat girl posts.

None of the other proposals could find consensus, so this is what I'm going with. If you want to preserve the information in these tags, then manually tag them as a different type of animal ears or whatever is appropriate, otherwise they're getting nuked.

The largest of these tags, serval ears, gets on the order of 10 searches per week. The rest get less. They're all used near-exclusively on single characters. They have very little tag value.

Also including prairie dog ears and tail because those are used exclusively by Black-tailed Prairie Dog.

So caracal ears, lynx girl, lynx ears, lynx tail, ocelot ears, ocelot tail, prairie dog ears, and prairie dog tail were all brought back. Most of them were due to a single user recreating them on a ton of Kemono Friends posts and then related tags did their thing, though Prairie Dog is almost entirely Gravel, with a handful of KFs.

Further, we still have things like aardwolf, chipmunk, and the like. All of them are consistently single-character tags. Even when there are multiple same-family KF characters, whichever is more popular occupies 90% of the tag. Given that I find images like post #6705204 under porcupine ears, related tags be shittin' stuff up again.

I'm just gonna propose deprecating them all since they were previously nuked and nobody bothered to reply to Veradux's post or garden the tags. Serval is empty, caracal is 96% caracal (kemono friends), lynx is a mainly mismash of Kal'tsit (even without ear tufts) and KF chars (7/8ths), and prairie dog is 95% Gravel. Ocelot has one (1) post of Ocelot (kemono friends), one (1) post of Ocelomeh, and four (4) of a VTuber (Mihos). All of those characters have many more posts where they also have these features that are not tagged so clearly nobody cares about them.

I want to say they'd be useful for finding original characters/personifications/etc but they just seem to be mainly padding, underutilised, and frequently mistagged (at least in lynx's case).

Didn't include ocelot girl since apparently it has never existed.
