Pixiv manga - large images

Please use pixiv_manga_sample not thumbnail, that's really been eating at me and if you start tagging 1k resolution images with thumbnail I may break.

Agreed. Sample works better.

Small: 849px × 1,200px (4,440.66 KB)

Big: 900px × 1,273px (1,237.19 KB)

Oh pixiv, how your broken resizing cracks me up...

Does anyone know when this feature was first introduced?

A look through pixiv_manga_sample status:deleted is probably your best bet. It's at least as far back as 6/24.

I would suggest against uploading the fullsize images unless you are contributor or the original uploader, if you are not either one of these it just looks like you're fishing for approvals.

Thinking about that a little more, if the original poster was a contributor or above it doesn't matter who reposts it but if both are people stuck in the queue it feels cheap to give one person +1/10 upload and another -1/4 upload for a pixiv feature that wasn't even active until 12 days ago.

If a mod is full-purging those manga samples disregard but I don't think this is happening.

I was holding off in the hope that a mod would purge but maybe after we get the majority of them sorted out one can just go through and purge everything at once. There's no reason to keep a record of who posted these, it's nobody's fault except pixiv's.

We don't delete duplicates, so why would we delete Pixiv manga samples? It's unfair for regular members to get a brick of deletions and have their upload limit reduced because of it, especially given how new this feature is.

If it were a double deletion, then maybe. I doubt the Mods and Admins would care though.

We do however delete the regular pixiv samples (""thumbnails""), manga samples are still samples generated by Pixiv. Other duplicates that go through the queue are in general not approved so the only difference here is that they were approved then unapproved (deleted) and nobody could have known they were uploading a sample.

It penalizes people for using the wrong source.

Since pixiv medium is just someone doing it wrong, I can see deleting these once they've been replaced. It'd be a good "incentive" to get people to do it right.

And...

especially given how new this feature is.

Why do the samples stretch back to June, though? I'm a little confused by that, unless pixiv's been storing away the originals in preparation for this day or something...

I have a feeling it was a beta feature or something. They allowed artists to upload at any size, told them that in the future they would be rolling out a way to view images at a larger size, and only launched it recently.

It is unfair, which is why double deletion should occur. Later manga sample uploads will be treated as thumbnails after the double deletion. If none of the people with the capability of double deletion care, than the task can be passed on to someone who does. But I'm sure a few will (with permission to do so, of course).
