Pixiv manga - large images

We do however delete the regular pixiv samples (""thumbnails""), manga samples are still samples generated by Pixiv. Other duplicates that go through the queue are in general not approved so the only difference here is that they were approved then unapproved (deleted) and nobody could have known they were uploading a sample.

I don't see manga samples as exactly the same as a small or medium sample. A small or medium sample is standardized and rather obvious that it's a sample, whereas a manga sample is often a serviceable image, though not the "correct" version. Basically, it's like a duplicate, and we don't delete existing duplicates unless if they're absolutely terrible.

It penalizes people for using the wrong source.

Context. Small and medium Pixiv images have been around for who knows how long, so of course people should feel the sting of a deletion if they upload them. Manga samples were introduced last week. Yes, we should no longer accept manga samples from this point forward, but I'm uneasy about yet another purge without double deletions to soften the blow.

Of course, there's nothing stopping jxh2154 from proving me wrong and giving Janitors the thumbs-up to purge the manga samples with no need of double deletions, but until then, I would rather we wait for confirmation before getting ahead of ourselves.

Found one dating back to 4/1, post #645959.

...That isn't a sample. Take another look at the page number in the source. You probably assumed it was a sample of page 0, but it's actually from page 1. The "original source" links all point to the same old style image URLs (####_p#).

Oh hey the image is indeed the same, I knew it was page 1 but I didn't think they would bother putting in the "original image" links if there wasn't an original image for it to link, my bad.

Yeah, they all have it. And even for the ones that do have a "_big_" image behind the link, the two versions can still be identical (like post #796757, which I've also corrected). My scan changes sources to the big URL whenever this is the case.

pixiv manga sample:
[...]
and a new オリジナルサイズ (original size) version linked to above the top-right corners of the pages. These links appear for all manga pages.

For images before this change, the image within has the exact same URL.
[...]
This tag applies when the image posted is the sample version and the sample version is not identical to the "original" size. Do not add this tag unless you can confirm a difference.

Updated

If you double-delete then they can be re-uploaded. That's why we don't double-delete posts except in special circumstances, under which I don't think this issue falls.

For the tiny handful of people who think their formula has been completely devastated by joining up and uploading 30 sample-size manga images from the start, they can contact a mod and get to me and I can deal with it. It's going to be such a rare situation though.

I've noticed recently that if a pixiv manga image has been uploaded using the "original size" image, clicking the source link returns an "image has been deleted" error, despite the fact that the image in question can be easily found in the respective artist's gallery.

Am I the only one getting this?

Can we get Albert to send every user a dmail notice not to change large image link? It's messing up with the checking and deleting process now.

It'd be easier for Albert to just fix the broken regex. All you have to do is replace

img_id = source[/(\d+)(_m|_p\d+)?\.[\w\?]+\s*$/, 1]

with

img_id = source[/(\d+)(_s|_m|(_big)?_p\d+)?\.[\w\?]+\s*$/, 1]

in models/post.rb

And what's messing up what now?

People change link from _big_p## to _p## so that source link can work is being a pain. I have to check if original large version have the same hash before deleting the samples.

But if you're deleting the sample, then it's already parented to the full size, right?

My automated scan runs once a day, correcting sources and tagging/untagging samples for posts uploaded after the previous scan (older posts covered by a full scan a week ago). Are you seeing my edits in these tag histories? I'm the one tagging the bulk of these samples...

Just found something weird: post #795305 URL leads to a totally different image (& different artist account) on pixiv.

Same bug as all full-res manga pages. Danbooru converts those to links with the manga page number as image ID, and this one is page 44 so it goes to pixiv image 44. Just read the full link to get the actual image ID instead until this is fixed.
