Someone care explaining what's happening to those not raised in a catholic setting? Thanks a lot!
they are basically offering to help the Chaplin with various duties of the church and offering to be a branch to the faiths of the other shipgirls. eg. Friedrich is going to head up the choir while Richelieu will handle things like confessional (confessing your sins), mass (preaching like going to church) and communion (sharing in the body of Christ) I am not catholic myself but I think I got it right.

Cute thing though.
Thanks. I get the communion part, but why is the chaplain locked up with Bache, of all girls, in a confessional (?)?
I think it's meant to be a flashback of him having to hear confessions. Notice the wavy line around the panel.
Oh god my brain malfunctioned. Of course it's Bache. The good (time) girl. Don't know if the catholic ship girls is gonna whip her ass though. Would be funny if the WW2 US anti-STD posters has a Bache on it.

I thought Bache WASN'T a slut, she just dresses like one? Wouldn't Chicago, Lexington, or Atago be more appropriate for this gag?
Based on the author's comment, I think it may be the chaplain imagining what might've happened?
I'm not sure how you got that specific idea from that comment, all it says is that it's what he's thinking. It's most likely a memory, he hasn't had the best experiences working on this base.
I'm far more concerned with Bache's size here. Friedrich, an amazon of a ship, and Richelieu are a head taller than the Chaplain, while Bitch Loli Bache looks like a giant in comparison.

It's most likely that the chaplain is cowering down in fear, knowing what the bitch loli is about to confess till sunset.
It looks more like Bache has been 'aged up', probably for the author's sake. Not everyone's into the specific niche that Bache fills, but her design is also the best fit for the joke, so she gets to look like a late teen/20-something instead of single digits.

I think Mr. Forsythe just has a problem with drawing characters to scale. In post #3883429, he drew South Dakota the same size as Columbia.

Just thought it'd be worth confirming from a Catholic. DeusEx773 is pretty much on point. Richelieu is essentially taking up a priest's role (assuming "officiate" includes the act of consecrating the eucharist [Roman Catholic doctrine requires a priest or higher to bless the host (the wafer/cracker) so that it becomes the Body of Christ]). Mass is the term for the entire event that is usually attended on weekends but is done multiple times a day (readings from the bible, followed by a reading from any of the 4 gospels, followed by communion). Confession is generally admitting to a list of one's sins or wrong doings and asking for forgiveness for them. Usually this is followed by a form of penance which can range to a specified number of prayers to a specified action (example, apologizing directly to your victim or acts of kindness). For overall significance, the chaplain's normal day has gone from consistently structured to a very open schedule.

Yeah I have a few catholic friends so I tend to know more then the average protestant does haha.
I’m a Protestant, so I’ve never had an experience with confession booths. And as an Asian raised in Hawaii, our communion usually consists of Filipino sweet bread and grape juice. The church tried wafers once, but they disappeared after a week. I did however, have a Family Guy fan as the guy holding the bread. He would always claim that “this is His butt broken for you.” And I would always laugh and choke on grape juice.

Bache isn't a slut, but when you read her lines, she makes a LOT of innuendo. Her dialog also indicates she has QUITE the opinion of herself.
She's going to be talking a LOOOOOOOONG time inside that confessional booth, going on about her own exploits and probably making all kinds of lewd and suggestive comments about anyone she likes.
