I'm assuming there is some suspicion that his "process" is actually backwards. He made the finish piece first, then made fake process steps to make it more legit. AI's definitely involved in the coloring. I'm not just not sure what amount of AI usage is allowed and not here.

I wrote a little breakdown here of why his process images look unconvincing. It's not exhaustive and I myself wasn't sure at the time (I'm more or less sure now), but there's enough reason for suspicion and I think this guy is just putting a lot of effort into trying to make his work look legit, instead of it actually being legit.

Anything that saw some amount of human input qualifies as ai-assisted, and is fully allowed. From there it's just up to if an approver wants to approve it. If there was no human input, then it's ai-generated, which is fully banned.

If all the AI did was color it, then it's allowed.

I can't say for sure, but for me it looks like the image was generated first, then process images were made tracing the ai image, copying it side by side and other methods. None of the lineart that this guy posted fully matches the final image, so I don't think it is the ai coloring situation. I'm not an ai expert, but the images that I've seen that were drawn by a human and colored by ai usually have the lines preserved, instead of heavily doctored. Also in his lineart timelapse he just goes in and draws the final lines without any structural lines underneath it and nails all the proportions on the first try while abusing the heck out of ctrl+z, which really feels to me like he just had the final image next to him side by side and was just copying from it.

shame. I didn't want to doubt the artist. very scummy if true
I followed him after seeing this art here so I'll wait until his next work before I pass judgment

If he had nothing to hide, this was definitely not the best way to show it.

Twitter is notoriously militant with their witch hunts. Probably just got sick of it. But I think this would have gone better if he was just upfront with "I'm using AI assistance for the pieces", instead of trying to fake it as legit.

So tracing over another drawing is okay but using AI as base and drawing over it isn't?
You people who aren't drawing have weird standards.

First of all, I don't believe anyone here claimed tracing (and passing it off as your own) was okay, and people around here regularly call it out when it's noticed.

Second, no one said drawing over an AI-generated image as a base wasn't okay, either, and I doubt it would ever be possible to tell if someone had, unless they didn't fix any of its mistakes in the process.

Finally, the suspicion raised was that the artist generated something, and then traced over it in order to make it look like it wasn't generated, by retroactively creating fake process steps of the image's creation. What people are saying isn't okay is lying.

Maybe try to be a little less disingenuous.

Pretty sure most of the people have issue with the deceit, not with the AI usage itself. At least not here. Twitter, on the other hand, is a cesspit and people will harass you for anything.

How is it a deceit if he genuinely draws over it? I mean, just so you know, it's very common for artists to use 3D models as bases, and draw over them. Would you claim there's deceit here too?
