According to a reliable historical document, there was once a battle of bullets fought in front of a crowd that was made out to be some kind of fireworks festival. There was also a series of rather spectacular battles fought near the human village that started over arguments about popularity and faith.
Battles of bullets are often thought to be relatively harmless and just a bit of fun… and to the people who participate in them, that may well be the case. However, some form of barrier is required to keep onlookers from wandering too close and getting hit by stray bullets and to ensure people don’t begin to unnecessarily fear the battlers. In this world, that barrier takes the form of music concerts.

“It’s time to battle, adorable supernova of the forest!”
“Bring it, singing and dancing shrine maiden sensation!”
Reimu and Marisa were heating up. Both were determined to come out on top, but doubt was creeping into their minds. “Maybe I’ve finally met my match,” they thought.
Bullets cascaded across the stage. As the ground shook beneath, the crowd all thought to themselves, “Just get this over with.”

The sages were all plagued with the task of finding an effective, large-scale, and realistic way to resolve the Lost Word Incident. All of the noteworthy residents of Gensokyo and the nearby realms were all out for themselves. The hoards of pathetically weak non-humans and conflict-avoiding humans weren’t, but they were hardly of any use. If they were told the truth, chaos would surely ensue. And naturally, there would be those who sought to use that chaos for personal gain.
However, this was not a problem the sages could solve alone. But they had an idea…

“That concert was amazing! But…”
“What a battle! It’s just…”
“Is doing all of this…”
“Are concerts like this…”
“Enough to resolve the Lost Word Incident?”
This was a part of their training and an arduous part at that. They had to study each other’s singing and fighting styles, including their strengths and weaknesses. They had to learn to maintain composure no matter what flew their way and how to work well with others. And they had to acquire as much strength as possible and unlock their potential. The goal was to become allies… without harming each other in the process.
But was that really possible? Even if it was, should it be done? Surely, there are some ways in which it’s best for humans and youkai to NOT combine their strength… right?

Somewhere, sometime in one of the infinite universes, festivals, concerts, and all other music events vanished entirely from the outside world… Although, in actuality, maybe that was just a small part of what vanished. Perhaps that was just the tip of the iceberg. Even now, the truth is unknown…
But there’s no need to despair. Everything that’s lost gathers in Gensokyo. And here, music events are alive and well.
One can’t help but wonder, though, if the Lost Word Incident is resolved, will everything go back to the way it was?
