Is the game actually hard? (just curiosity, since I don't care about the game, especially with them going with the same pattern of "we'll use only the male protag for advertisement.")

it's very unforgiving if your F2P.... the game is very unbalance when you find out that there are more Rare(gold) servant than there are bellow silver (3<). from poor direction and it's aimed toward whaling. You can win w/o spending but it will get real hard in later contents.
The new arts meta is trying to solve that but getting to end game will be a nightmare unless your a veteran (like moving servers JP<->NA)

To tell the truth, even if you are to whale it doesn’t mean you’ll do any better, especially in the later areas like Shimosa or the lost belt. That I know from experience.
Yeah, the game is pretty overwhelming and it is very unfriendly towards newbies but at the same time because of the friend system as well as the fact that alot of the servants having skills that make them very liable, you can still play through fine. Also, SQ are given out like candy.
Many of my 5* are purely from the free SQs with only like...maybe 3 or 4 from actual whaling and I got almost all the 5*. But that’s from just the time spent.
If you are able to strategize and understand the best type of servant or skills needed for the job, you can be fine even with a team of 3*. Euryale for example is still one of the most powerful archer servants in the game that blows even most 5* like Ishtar(Ishtar’s np is kinda shit, even as an AoE and her skills are bleh) and such away, and most people you meet via friends tend to have a merlin or Waver, or Skadi and even without their np, they help wonders with their skills.
Also, if you unlucky to get ANY 5* at all, like F rank luck god forbid, Saint Quartz are invincible. You can just keep res’ing over and over again until you win.

I didn't find it all that bad as a F2P. I play fairly casually though, so in the first month I was basically just getting the dailies and logging back out. As far as summons go, only my saber is lacking a 5 star, but Rama does well enough. Difficulty can go up and down. It didn't feel too bad until Camelot with the annoying King blessings (even those weren't too bad, honestly I got annoyed at the Psuedo Singularities more). And as Keo said, as long as you have some quartz, which you can get just from logging in, you'll have a fresh unit with full NP bar to wrap it up.
Etto... I appreciate the answers but, I was actually asking about the FGO Waltz, the "Dancing Mashu" app that is referenced in this chapter. I do play FGO and

With their rates, not enough, I used 600+ SQs trying to get Summer!BB and Summer!Jannu and failed both, also used 100+ trying for Shuten on the current banner and you already know the result... but if you got almost all the 5*, your Luck Rank is pretty damn high, I have been playing since a little before the first christmas event and so far I only have eleven 5* (that thanks to a luck string in the end of last year, that I got Abby, Eresh and Oei, with just a little more than 700 SQs), and I even had to whale to get Raikou (the remainings of that whale also got me Kiara), although I also know I'm not even on the most unluckier side of things... Sorry for the rant.

To this day, I still think that Gawain fight was the worst.

Yes, kind of, though the only requirement to clear a level is by clearing just one objective (B rank), my goal to clear all of them perfectly isn't easy since Mash's cuteness is distracting, and rhythm game isn't actually my thing. Best i could get is SS rank on some of the songs.
The game objective per level are:
Unison: tapping correctly at the circle.
Perfect: well timed taps.
Combo: a requirement of how much combo you need to do. and will reset if you fail once.
I'm making this sound easy but actually some minor failed taps could lead to a chain where you fail all of the requirements.
The game has no transaction whatsoever and to unlock Artoria's level you need to buy 25% of the things in the shop. It is purely skill based.
Also there is the "watch Mash dancing without playing" mode for each respective songs that may be most people's main goal along with Artoria herself.
Really don't know why is everyone talking about how hard FGO is when the first question is how hard is FGO Waltz, the rhythm game.

No. It isn't really hard, but it's grindy and tedious. Either you abuse events, or you grind for hours to get enough XP to level up a Servant from level 58 to level 59, because unlike Overhit and pretty much every RPG ever, you don't get XP by fighting in FGO, no, you get XP by doing boring maps that take an eternity or two to load, so that even before the map is loaded, you already want to go home and go sleep in a warm bath, and then the fighting starts, and it's a very boring game of "I will hit you! PAF! Okay, your turn! PAF! Okay, my turn!", mixed with completely bullshit RNG that let enemies use the same skill twice in a row, sometimes twice during the same turn, whereas all your skills have a cooldown of around 6-10 turns, which is annoying when it's a skill that recover HP, since they can use it anytime they feel like it. Same thing with criticals, the enemies don't follow your rules, so it's easy for a puny Roman legionary to kill Medusa, great Greek hero, and kickass lady extraordinaire, simply because RNGesus felt like giving you the middle finger.

It really got out of hand.
So... like Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 1 on PSP? Everything is unlocked with clear, high scores, high combo, or Normal/Hard Mode clear, clear this song x times, etc.
It was pretty hard, but it does help me to be a decent rhythm player (I suck at it). But yeah, this means Hard mode exclusives are no go, since you can't just grind points like in its sequels.
I wonder if that experience will help me do decently in FGO Moonwaltz... haven't played it yet.
But can you satisfy me, who has played numerous different smartphone idol games?Perverted 3D CG it is...Then let's have a dance, SenpaiWas it too hard for you?Well, they say challenge and failure go together.
Give it another go Senpai~Here, give me your handWhat's wrong?I cannot dance waltz with you if you don't give me your hand?Ah~ How disappointing~ You got a CDangerous things need to be eradicated
as in exorcism eradicationHere in Moonlight we can enjoy some fun rhythm games
