Madoka is better than Sailormoon in proportion to the difference between the series' lengths. That being said, it once again proves that a series doesn't need to be long to be good.
Sailormoon was actually good before it suffered from the cash cow milking. A long series is nice as long as the author planned for it to be a long series in the first place. But Sailormoon was ment to be half as long as what we got. DBZ suffered a similar fate.
DBZ had a couple different end points planned, but it was never meant to be as short as people suggest. Sailor Moons length only suffered in the anime where they just didn't seem to care in the later seasons and the faithfullness to the source material just dropped.
Nice match up... I agree with you Emporer-Wakamoto. There is no doubt that Naoko loves her creation, but perhaps she is so-so with the anime? Particularly the later seasons when the Outers become regular.
There were some changes that were good, like giving one-time villains / characters more screen time.
The problem with Anime in general is that the manga-ka doesnt always get the "Freedom" to every say anything about it. Manga's a different story, but the anime is what supposed to be draws in people to buy the merchandise. Mostly its the older audience reading the manga but the series targest audience in most cases is of the younger variety. If you want to see your shows "Uncut"(not to the real story), you better be a manga reader. Thats putting aside fillers as for the most part, they have a reason to exists.
Regardless of what anyone might say... I still believe Sailor Moon is, and most likely always will be, the best magical girl show out there. Even though the anime sure liked dragging things out with their unnecessary filler episodes.
